Betty Turner Bowden, age 89, passed from this life on January 9, 2018.
She was born in Wellington, Utah on May 12, 1928 to Daniel William Turner and Wilma Jessen Turner. Her father was killed in a mining accident in 1930. In 1937 her mother married William H. McConkie and they moved to Vernal, Utah. She attended schools in Price, Maeser, Lapoint, and Vernal. She loved being a student. She loved question and answer game shows for the learning she gleaned from them. She also enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. She was an avid reader her entire life and loved all types of music.
She married Don Bowden October 13, 1945 in Vernal, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she enjoyed many callings in her ward and stake. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the Daughter of the American Revolution, and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She served in many offices of her DUP Camp and in the Vernal Chapter of DAR. She was very proud of her many LDS Pioneer ancestors, her three Revolutionary War patriots, her War of 1812 patriot and her two Mayflower ancestors. She loved Genealogy and passed that love on to many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Bowden, her son Steve Bowden, her parents and step-father, a daughter-in-law, a grandson, a great-granddaughter and her brother Dan Turner.
She is survived by her daughters, Larraine Oliver, Carolyn (Jack) Fulkerson, Jane (Gary) Merrell and Dee Anne Kazeck all of Vernal; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11AM at the Maeser Stake Center (2745 West 1000 North). A viewing for family and friends will be held Monday morning 9:30-10:45AM at the church. Interment will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
