Mary Alice Watkins

Mary Alice Watkins passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.

Mary Alice was born on June 18, 1930 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Mamie Ellen Pollock and Raymond Monreau Goldston. She was the youngest of three children. Her father worked in the oil refinery business and they moved many times, finally ending up in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. One of her most interesting childhood memories in Scotts Bluff was riding with the milk man to deliver milk to a POW camp during World War II.

In 1949 Mary Alice and her parents moved to Vernal to run the refinery in Jenson, Utah. During this time, she met and married Clyde Watkins after 10 days of courtship. They became the parents of three boys, Brad, Greg, and Brian. Mary Alice worked for Ashton Brothers, and for Bobbie Mott in her dress shop and at “Mr. S”. She loved being busy and was very social. It was said that if you wanted to know something you could just ask Mary Alice about it because she always seemed to know the talk of the town. She loved to make her famous cookies for all of her neighbors at Christmas time and her boys always looked forward to sneaking a few for themselves.

Mary Alice was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She could often be found playing games with her grandchildren around the table. She loved playing bridge and spending time with her dearest friends Bonnie, Helen, Margaret and Colleen.

One of Mary Alice’s favorite pastimes was being in the outdoors. She loved camping with her family and friends. She also had a special love and compassion for animals and would often take in strays. Mary Alice will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mary Alice is survived by her 3 sons, Brad Watkins, Greg Watkins (Lisa) and Brian Watkins (Reba), 8 grand children, 27 great grand children, and 1 great great grandchild. We would like give a special thank you to her care giver Jaqueline for her hours of loving service and many others she has had throughout the years as well as Good Shepard for her in home and hospice care. We are so grateful for the love and compassion toward our mother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11AM at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A viewing will be held Monday 9:45-10:45AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
