Connie Moore
Connie Wallace Moore, 66, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 23, 2017 in Vernal, Utah, from complications of kidney disease. Her loved ones were gathered around her bed to hug her and wish her godspeed on her next adventure.
She was a mischievous imp with a blue twinkle in her eyes. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She could ride a horse like a fiend and was always up for adventure. And boy, could she cook; there was nowhere anyone would rather be than at Connie's well-spread table.
No one was more generous than Connie and Dick. Their home, food, money, four-wheelers, horses, camping gear, time--it was all there to be shared. Their siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren were frequently the recipients of their generosity and fun.
Connie was born January 4, 1951, in Price, Utah, to Leonard H. and Norma Jorgensen Wallace. Her father, a well-liked Price police officer, died of Rheumatic Fever when she was two.
Norma found a teaching job in Vernal where she eventually met and married LaVern Powers, who happily accepted her children as his own and they later added several more children to the family. For a number of years, they followed the oil field work from Rifle, Colo., to Meeker, Colo., and back to Vernal.
When Connie was 16, she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Moore; they were married, built a small house and raised two boys, Wayne and Richard (Ricky), on a pocket farmstead by the Maeser Canal northwest of Vernal. Over the years, there was also a parade of well-loved farm animals--racehorses, a flock of chickens in their penthouse coop, milk cows, pigs, dogs, cats, a geese gaggle, ducks, guineas, turtles and even a raccoon.
Among the family lore are stories of the sly Siamese cat who'd jump onto unsuspecting visitors' laps to make friendly, then wrap her loving and very sharp claws and teeth around their neck; and the guard geese (still occupying the premises) who chased any and all intruders, including grandma, 91, right back to their cars.
Connie and Dick were a team--through the cow punching days, the racehorse circuit (Dick was a trainer) days, the oil field tool delivery days, or at the Saturday matinee, she was almost always with him.Through the last difficult year after her kidneys wore out, they were still a team as he lovingly cared for her, helped her get around and stayed by her side to the end. Best Friends for 49 years.
Connie leaves behind her husband, Dick Moore, her mom, Norma Jorgensen Wallace Powers, her dad, Leonard Wallace (deceased), stepdad, Vern Powers (deceased), her siblings, Kathleen Christensen (Randy), Richard Wallace (Olivia), Holly Wilkins (Stuart), Robert Powers (Alecia), Dawn Searle (Flynn); sons Wayne Moore (Heather) and Richard Moore (deceased); grandchildren, Chelsea Goodrich (Riker), Brandon Moore (Shazet ), Travis Searle, Tyler Searle; great grandchildren, Mckayla, Bree and Ella Rose (deceased) Goodrich, Meia, Zaylynn, & Liam Moore; and too many nieces and nephews to count.
Memorial services for Connie Moore, age 66, wife of Dick Moore, will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11AM at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A visitation will be held 10AM-11AM at the mortuary.
Connie, if you're looking down from a happy reunion somewhere with other loved ones, know that you're missed, that you'll always be in our hearts, and that we will surround Dick with love and look after him for you.
