Thomas William Scovell
Thomas William Scovell
March 10, 1959 – May 19, 2016
Tom lost his battle with Leu Gerigs disease on 05/19/2016. Tom had great comfort in knowing that he has family waiting on the other side and would say “Thank God for the promise of eternal life”. His life here on earth was hard these last few years, but his rewards in heaven must be great!
Thomas William Scovell was born in Lanstuhl Germany to Fred William Scovell and Delcie (Henderson) Scovell-Brawn.
Tom had 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He was the third child of five children.
Tom grew up all along the west coast from California to Oregon and Washington. He loved the Oregon area and loved to fish with his brothers. He eventually ended up in the Salt Lake City area to live close to family. He resided in Salt Lake City for twenty years and spent the last few years in Vernal after he turned ill.
He learned to play the drums in elementary school and he always had such a love for playing them. Needless to say… the tops of moms tupperware set still had the dings in them from his “drum set”. He performed with many bands throughout his life time. It was a real passion with him.
He joined the Navy at the age of seventeen.
His six year term with the Navy took him to the Philippines, Hawaii, and Japan.
When he returned from the Navy he started working in the tree trimming business. This is something he pursued the rest of his life until he was struck by Leu Gerigs Disease (ALS).
Tom enjoyed playing games; especially trivia with friends and scrabble with his dad. It didn’t matter who you were, he was not going to give you a chance to beat him! I’m sure many of the folks at the care center will remember his competitive personality.
Tom was married to Missy Peterson, they later divorced.
Tom is survived by his father Fred W. Scovell of Vernal, Utah, sister Shirley (ARNY) Eksund of Vernal, Utah, brothers Sid and Fred Scovell of Salt Lake City, Utah, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother; Delcie Lou Brawn, sister; Linda Lou Baptiste, and niece Tabitha Ann Nelms.
Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Special thanks go out to all the caring people who worked at the Uintah Care Center. Every small act of kindness never went un-noticed.
Tom requested a cremation burial.
There will be a celebration of life at the home of Shirley and Arny Eksund (348 N 1250 W. Vernal, Utah 84078) for friends and family on May 28, 2016 from 6-8 PM. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers, instead of flowers they can make a donation to the ALS foundation in Memory of Tom.
