Iona Collier Williams
Iona Collier Williams passed away May 7, 2016 at the Uintah Care Center.
Iona was born April 17, 1925 in Vernal, UT to Frank and Rowena Collier. She married Edward (Ted) Williams Sept. 17, 1941 in Malad Idaho and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1945.
Iona worked at Garden Gate Floral, Sprouse Jewelry, Style Shop and Bradshaw Auto. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, baby-sitting and being a care-giver to all.
In 1981, Ted and Iona were in a serious car accident which broke her neck and left her paralyzed. She spent four months in the hospital and several years learning to walk and talk. She was known as the cute little lady with the soft voice.
In 2001, Ted suffered a massive stroke. She sat with him in the care center from morning until night for four years until he passed away in 2005.
Iona was active in church, clubs and served as a Pink Lady for over 20 years. she was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and her testimony never wavered right up to her last coherent days.
She is survived by son DeNile and Leslie Williams of Salt Lake City, UT, daughter Sherry and Roger Perry of Vernal along with nine grandchildren, 36 1/2 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and brother Harlen Collier.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, sisters Naoma Slaugh and Erma Long , brother Melvin Collier and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11a.m. at the Glines 3rd Ward Chapel (475 West 100 South). A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6-8p.m. at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Saturday, 9:45-10:45a.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park.
