Betty Maurine Smith Brown
Betty Maurine Smith Brown, age 89, passed away on April 25, 2016 in Vernal, Utah surrounded by her family. She was born on April 22, 1927 to Olive and Sherman Smith in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She married Don Howard Brown on December 1, 1943. They were later Sealed in the Manti Temple.
Betty spent many years working with Don in the meat department at Days’ Thriftway. Betty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She always had a strong love and testimony of the gospel. Betty faithfully served in many callings in the Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary. After Don and Betty retired they served a mission in the Riverside, California area. Their mission was a highlight of her life. She also served in the Vernal Temple for many years. She loved her time doing this.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She loved all family gatherings and reunions. Betty and Don loved to bowl, visit family and friends, go for long rides and watch I Love Lucy and Lawrence Welk.
Betty had such a beautiful smile that would light up the room when she walked in. She was the best wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Don H. Brown; parents, Sherman and Olive Smith; brother Sherdan Smith; sister-in-law Mary Ann Smith; brother and sister-in-law Don and Erma Barton; parents-in-law Howard and Gladys Brown; daughter Maurine Smuin; granddaughter Michelle Rich; great grandsons, Blayne Mark Rich and Bronx Brandon Young.
She is survived by her children: Donetta (Kirt) Rich, son-in-law Craig (Marlene) Smuin, Elaine (John) Sindt, Helen (Gene) Searle, Randy (Cindy) Brown, and Susan (Burke) Buckalew; brothers: Allen Smith, Oliver (Nancy) Smith; sister-in-law Phyliss Smith; brother-in-law Rex Brown; 36 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Vernal 5th and 9th Ward Chapel (200 West 250 North) at 11AM. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8pm at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West) and Monday 9:45~10:45AM at the chapel. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
